Lt. Gannon: "Here we are.
We'll set up shop here. I'll cover the angle down this
path. Sgt. Kozin, get out the camera and make your
preparations. Spec. Caldwell, you watch our 6."

After a 2 hour wait, the insertion team
has their first contact.
Lt. Gannon: "Kozin, you getting
this?"
Sgt. Kozin: "Yes sir am I
ever. Feels like when I was 19."
Lt. Gannon: "Yeah, me too.
Now let's not give away our position."

Sgt. Kozin's vantage point gives him a
good perspective. North Vietnam VC Regulars and NVA
troops. Battalion strength was recorded. A mixed
assortment of weapons, including AK47s, SKS, RPGs and even a few
1903 Springfields. Several water buffalo were laden with food
and medical supplies. Also noted were 2 US issue recoilless
rifles.

Not more than 15 minutes later, the
next contact was made. German Fallschrimjagers from World War
II. About twenty soldiers were counted. Judging from the
MG42 being carried by the gunner, it would put these troops as 1944
- 1945.
Spec. Caldwell: "Gummi
puppen!"
Lt. Gannon: "Caldwell!"
Spec. Caldwell: "Sorry sir! Ever
see the movie 'The Longest Day'?"
Sgt. Kozin: "Ssssssssssh!"
